About Insula
Insula is an independent atlas of projection mapping and light art. It connects artworks shown at light festivals and media-art awards with the artists, places and buildings behind them — and adds practical knowledge for people who want to create their own projections.
What you'll find here
- Artworks from festival programmes and archives, with artists, years, locations and short credited excerpts.
- Artists and studios, festivals, countries and cities, landmarks and immersive exhibitions.
- A projector database with throw-distance tables, mapping software comparisons, guides, a glossary and calculators.
The name and the domain
The insula is the region of the brain where bodily sensations are turned into emotions — a fitting image for light art, which turns photons into feeling. From 2015 to around 2019, insula-prod.com was the home of Insula Prod, a French multidisciplinary collective specialising in architectural video mapping, interactive installations, stage design and art education. This website is a new, independent project under new ownership and is not affiliated with that collective; it continues the domain's focus on video mapping as an open reference for the whole field.
How the data is collected
Facts are gathered automatically from public festival programmes, archives and open databases, then normalised and linked. Descriptions are generated from those facts; quoted excerpts are kept short and always credited with a link to the original. Read the full sources & methodology.
